Many corporate retreats and annual meetings include “Team activity/gathering” intended to foster team-building. While the motives for incorporating these types of activities might be well-founded, the results often fall short of training objectives. A “team activity” typically weighs heavily on the game element and less on the training, leaving participants with a few minutes or hours of fun and perhaps some good memories but not much that they can apply to their daily work....

Despite the differences seen in Millennials, many organizations still attempt to engage this generation with traditional training methods, such as videos, case studies, and lectures. While these methods are easy to implement and often affordable, the concept of learning decay illustrates that these methods will only provide limited results on their own, because most of the information is forgotten shortly after training concludes.....
